Upgrade CD player in an ‘02 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Suggestions Jeep Owners or Stereo Professionals?

March11

i am wanting to buy a new stereo and surprise my husband. The stock cd player is an odd shape. Plus, I know we have to be careful of the stereo getting stolen with a soft top. Are there particular makes/models of stereos for Jeeps that anyone suggests? Do you know any links to web sites?

I own a 2000 jeep cherokee sport i recently bought a pioneer cd player from Circuit city they installed it for me they also have the kits to make it fit your vehicle. it cost me $350 all together it has a detachble face plate for security. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069880_338818745,00.html

well i cant really tell you if your car is going to be broken into cuz that really just depends on the neighborhood that you live in i myself just leave my car open i never really lock it and i have a big sound system so all i can say is be carefull now as far as the stereo you can put in any stereo that you want you are going to have to buy a dash kit and a wiring harness if your going to put it in or have one of your friends put it in to save yourself on installation fees but with the harness you just pair up the colors from the harness to the stereo and just plug it in to your stock harness when you pull out the old stereo as far as the dash kit this helps you install the stereo in place especially if the stock stereo is a odd shape my recomendations just get a stereo that you like if your thinking of upgrading as far as putting in a amp and subs then get one that has 3 rca outputs in the back but one thing that you could do to avoid the whole stress of getting your stereo stolen you could get a double din these stereo come with extra fetures and they look like the stock navigation on most newer cars and are really well equiped but they are a bit pricey but they’re unlikely to steal compare to conventional because they blend in to the the dash and look like stock stereos but thats just an option but if you want a regular just get any alpine, blaukpunkt or pioneer good luck

i am on my 4th jeep i love um… but they are bouncy especially the wrangler, it use to be that some cd players would skip over larger bumps, but even the factor cd player seams pretty good now adays, my first jeep, a 94 wrangler had a pioneer aftermarket put in it skiped horibly, the next jeep was a 98 and i put a alpine in and it never skipped, but during those 4 years pioneer also improoved greatly, and today they should all work. there are kits as others have said to make everything fit very nice. and as for being stolen, there are no garantees, and one is not better than another for avoiding it. best bet is just to turn the radio way down when you get close to where your going to not draw attention, or i chosse to upgrade everything except the fatory deck.
you can see my install here if you want (06′ wrangler)..
