I bought a 2004 Wrangler Rubicon on a whim (an error on the website saved me $1000!) I then started doing research and realized that Jeep changed the transmission in 2005 from a 5-speed to a 6-speed. In my 5-speed, 1st gear is WAY too low for street driving, so I start from 2nd, which is too high, and I’m burning my clutch. I want to replace it with a 2005 manual transmission, which has a lower 1st gear, but also a lower 2nd, which will give me a better “street start” 1st gear, and I will still have 5 effective gears.
My basic question is: since the engine is the same 4.0L I-6, will the new transmission bolt directly onto the engine, or are they incompatible?
(I believe I gave enough information, but I will supply more if it is needed)
